Abstract

This paper discusses the topic ‘Information Literacy: The Future and the Past’ which provide brief examples of areas where we believe information literacy efforts will expand in the future also briefly reflect upon what we have learned about information literacy.

The broad educational and library communities are increasingly recognizing the value of information literacy and are in the process of integrating information literacy skills instruction with the curriculum. What began as an expansion of traditional library skills instruction in K-12 and bibliographic instruction (BI) in higher education is now a major focus of education and an increasing interest of societies worldwide, with organizations like the partnership for 21st Century Skills and AOL Time Warner taking up the charge.

Abstract

In this information society, the new information occurs within microseconds and is also accessible to the wide range of users. Technology is developing day-by-day, and the ways of accessing information are also getting changed. In this digital world, the information is easily available and because of this, misuse of information is increasing. This creates a threat to the original creative work. Therefore, management of copyright is a new issue. With the existence of several laws and acts, the violation of copyright is still going-on in every field and in different parts of the world. This violation of copyright is a worldwide problem, mainly due to the people are still less aware about Intellectual property Right (IPR) and especially copyright in academic world. Due to wide use of information technology, now it become possible to access the information easily through databases, Internet, electronic resources in various formats. Standing within this state of our society, the investigator selected the present topic and decided to conduct the study on doctoral students. Doctoral students are considered as the generator of new information so it cannot be overemphasized that they should be aware about copyright. This study has been conducted to investigate and explore the awareness of plagiarism and fair use among the doctoral students. The paper deals with the basic concept of copyright, fair use and plagiarism and presented the findings related to awareness of copyright, various issues of copyright, treatment of quotation, level of awareness regarding plagiarism, various anti-plagiarism software, and awareness regarding fair use.

Use of social networking sites by the faculty members of Central Himalayan region: a study of Kumaun University

Research Problem: The present study revealed about the use of social networking sites by the faculty members of Central Himalayan region. Kumaun University has been taken for the study, which is situated at this region

Methodology Applied: A closed questionnaire method was applied for the study. 200 questionnaires were distributed amongst faculty members of Kumaun University and only 114 respondents replied.

Results/conclusions: It is observed that majority of the faculty members of Kumaun University (KU) from all disciplines are aware of the SNSs and have accounts on them. 78.94 % faculties accessed Facebook through laptop at their home. 84.21% faculty members shared information through it and 64.04% used it for communication of research output. 59.65% faculty members of KU believed that SNS is relevant, active and interesting community, 56.14% used it for gaining valuable ideas. 71.05% of KU believed that SNS exposed to latest technology and 56.14% are satisfied with SNS

Recommendations: Library of Kumaun University should use these social networking sites in promoting their services amongst faculty members.

Abstract

This paper deals with growth and collaborative research pattern of scientific publications of Journal of Intellectual Property Rights (JIPR) during the selected eight years between 2007and -2014. The study revealed that the majority of 58 (14.95%) publications were produced by the contributors in the year 2013 and the maximum number of average length of the articles was i.e. 10.10 in the year 2013. The degree of collaboration in this journal is 0.36. Further, the study explored the year wise growth, author productivity, authorship pattern, volume wise and issue wise authorship, and the single and multi-authored papers and average citations, page distribution, rank wise geographical distribution of publications etc.

Abstract

The paper discusses the level of awareness and use of Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) services among the industrial workers .The study also identifies the source of information about the ESI services and its barriers for accessing them. The author conducted a survey method by using a semi structured questionnaires. There are seven industries registered in the ESI schemes at Dharmadam Panchayat. The Data was collected only from Dharmadam workers. They are very few in number hence the investigator has not used any sampling technique; the whole population was taken for this study. The study found that all workers are aware and majority is utilizing the benefits of ESI services. It was also found that interpersonal communication is the main source of information about ESI scheme for workers. The results also reveals that a large majority of workers feels that bottlenecks in procedure and lack of medical facility as the main barrier in getting services from ESI dispensary. Suggestions are also made for the improvement of use of ESI schemes.

ABSTRACT

The present study has been undertaken with a view to assess the awareness and usage patterns of electronic information resources by the library users of Assam University, Silchar. The study further aims to investigate the level of satisfaction among the users with the existing ICT infrastructure facilities available in the university library and the various problems encountered by them while accessing internet and electronic information resources. Primarily, questionnaire has been used as a data collection tool along with observations and informal interviews. A total of 110 questionnaires have been distributed randomly among the users who have visited the university library for accessing internet. The data collected through the survey has been analyzed using simple percentage technique and the responses are presented in tables and figures.
